Background

Bowen Therapy

Tom Bowen was a man with exceptional skills and no formal education who was able to do work that was remarkable.

Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916-1982) was among the last of a special breed of manual therapists in Australia. His kind is unlikely to ever emerge again to any degree, overtaken by demands, regulations and rules of modern education and training.

When, as a young man, Bowen came into contact with a famous Melbourne healer, nearing the middle of the last century little was he to know that this would be a life changing association, not just for Bowen, but for thousands of therapists and many more thousand members of the public around the world. Bowen was handed a baton and he ran with it, continuing a line that had evolved over the centuries. That he made the work his own is now legendary. Dogged with deafness, emotional illness, then, in his latter years, rebuilding his life and work after having a leg amputated, Bowen managed to continue to spread a healing message to those who came in contact with him. His is a true story of greatness against the odds.

~ Col Murray ~ ‘In Search of Tom Bowen and the Therapy He Inspired’

"I expect to pass through this world but once
Any good thing therefore that I can do,
Or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature,
Let me do it now.
Let me not defer or neglect it,
For I shall not pass this way again."
~ Tom Bowen ~
